A recent scientific finding reveals that this dark-colored rice can be a super food for the health. Black rice has low sugar content and healthy fiber and contains compounds that overcome heart disease and cancer.

Scientist from Louisiana University found that black rice has anthocyanin content which is soluble in the water after analyzing the bran samples of the black rice that is grown in South America. Anthocyanin is a compound that gives dark color which is widely available in fruits and vegetables, like blueberry and red pepper.

Anthocyanin is functioning to stop harmful molecules, which may help protect arteries and prevent DNA damage that can lead to cancer disease. A spoonful of black rice contains more anthocyanin which is good for your health rather than a spoonful of blueberries with a little bit of sugar, and contain more fiber and vitamin E.

According to the experts, black rice cereal could be an economical alternative to increase daily consumption of antioxidants. In China, black rice is known for centuries as “Forbidden Rice“, because only the noble people were allowed to eat. Today, black rice is used as a garnish for food, noodles, sushi and desserts.
